This term the Parerā children have been working on their Learning Goals. Maddie set herself the challenge of learning to tie her shoelaces. Maddie's clever Mum made her this amazing teaching shoe to help Maddie practise. What a great idea!
Check out all the amazing things we have been doing this week in Parerā 5! Frankie, Sahel and Monty started school. Sahel celebrated his 5th birthday and his Mum brought in a delicious chocolate cake to share with us - good timing Mrs Lidstone! A parerā (grey duck) visited Parerā 5! We learnt about the letter 'a' so we went on an ant hunt. We followed a recipe to make playdough. We used our playdough to make balls and worms and then we turned our worms into letters. We chased bubbles for fitness. We learnt a new maths game called 'Lilypads'. We are learning to identify the numbers 1-10. We completed a maths activity in our activity books. We visited Pīwakawaka 1/2 at the end of the day on Thursday to meet and play with the other Year 1 children. The children received their 'Welcome to School' certificates at Junior Assembly. It was so much fun being back at school today, catching up with our friends and teachers and getting to know our new friends. We were formally welcomed at a Mihi Whakatau this morning and then we carried on with our classroom programme, enjoying phonics, reading, maths and handwriting. At the end of the day we shared what we did in the holidays at news time and our newest friends completed their self-portraits. What a wonderful first day!
